Russell Creek’s owner and winemaker Larry Krishoven has been creating wines for over a decade in Walla Walla. It’s the Sangiovese he releases that garners the most attention, while the solid and full single-varietal Cabs and Merlots collect great scores (he has earned 10 scores of 90+ from Wine Spectator in just the past few years). It’s his only blend, the Tributary red selling for under $20, that will be his first wine to be inducted into The Best Wines on Planet Earth!
I consider this wine to be the best red wine under $20 available on the west coast, and so do our customers. Mouthfilling flavors of chocolate, plum, cassis, cherry and spice flood over the full body. With another few months of age, it will improve dramatically and let loose more hints of herbs, tea and oak.
The blend is 56% Cabernet Sauvignon and 44% Merlot this time around. It’s a large wine for the $20 price tag, and the tannin structure backing up the fruit makes the drinker crave a big steak or a casual hefty Amercian meal.
This wine is available at Salut! Wine Co. for $19.99, or available to wine club members for only $16.99!
